Machakos, Kenya – April 30, 2025 – In a landmark announcement today, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti officially welcomed Roam, Kenya’s leading electric mobility company, to the county in a strategic partnership with global energy giant TotalEnergies. This move marks Roam’s second expansion outside Nairobi, following its recent entry into Kiambu County, and signals a major step in the company’s broader national growth strategy.
Speaking at the launch event held at TotalEnergies' flagship station in Machakos town, Governor Ndeti lauded the initiative as a “bold leap toward a greener future” and emphasized its potential to drive transformative change in the region. “Roam’s arrival in Machakos brings with it not just innovation in mobility but also real opportunities for youth employment and sustainable development,” she stated.
Roam, known for its electric motorcycles and buses, is aiming to revolutionize public and commercial transportation with affordable, eco-friendly alternatives. The partnership with TotalEnergies ensures a robust charging infrastructure across key locations in Machakos, enabling widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
“We are thrilled to bring clean, accessible mobility to Machakos and to collaborate with both county leadership and TotalEnergies to create an inclusive, climate-smart transport system,” said Roam CEO, Alvin Mwangi.
The rollout is expected to create hundreds of local jobs in vehicle assembly, battery maintenance, customer service, and technical support. In addition, training programs will be launched in partnership with local vocational institutions to build a skilled workforce in e-mobility.
Governor Ndeti reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to climate resilience and job creation, positioning Machakos as a hub for sustainable innovation in the region. “We are ready to lead from the front in embracing green technology that empowers our people and protects our environment.”
The Machakos expansion aligns with the national government’s green transport agenda and is anticipated to set the stage for more counties to follow suit.
