Dr. Emily Maina, a prominent figure in Kenya’s sports medicine and youth development circles, has publicly lauded the government for appointing the youngest Principal Secretary (PS) in the country’s history. The appointment, announced earlier this week, marks a significant milestone in efforts to empower youth in leadership roles.

In a statement released today, Dr. Maina praised the bold move, calling it “a historic step forward for youth representation and innovation in governance.”

"This appointment is not just symbolic—it reflects trust in the capabilities of young leaders and sets a precedent for the next generation," Dr. Maina said. "It’s refreshing to see the government acknowledging youthful energy and vision as assets in public service."

The newly appointed PS, whose name is expected to be officially gazetted later this week, is 29 years old and comes from a background in community development and digital governance. Their appointment to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is seen by many as a strategic choice that aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 blueprint.

Dr. Maina, who has long advocated for policies that link youth, health, and sports, said she hopes the new PS will push for reforms that increase funding for grassroots sports programs and athlete mental health services.
