Kenyan Muslims Raise Over KES 5 Million for Gaza Udhiyah Project Ahead of Eid al-Adha

Nairobi, Kenya – June 4, 2025

Story by Stella Ranji.

In a powerful show of solidarity and compassion ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim community in Kenya has come together to raise over KES 5 million to support Udhiyah (Qurbani) efforts for the people of Gaza, Palestine. The funds will be used to provide sacrificial meat to families in need, in observance of the Islamic festival of sacrifice.

The initiative, coordinated by local mosques, charitable organizations, and individual donors across the country, aims to share the joy of Eid with those enduring hardship due to ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises in Gaza.

A ceremonial handover of the donation will take place this Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Jamia Mosque in Nairobi. Community leaders, donors, and representatives from the international NGO set to implement the Udhiyah distribution in Gaza will be in attendance.

Speaking on the initiative, Sheikh Abdulrahman Busaidy, one of the organizers, said:

“Eid al-Adha reminds us of the spirit of sacrifice, empathy, and unity. Our brothers and sisters in Gaza are going through unimaginable suffering. This is our way of standing with them—not just in prayer, but through action.”

The chosen NGO, which has a strong record of humanitarian work in Palestine, will carry out the slaughtering and distribution of meat to thousands of families in Gaza during the Eid period. Every donation will ensure that vulnerable households can partake in the celebration with dignity and joy.

The campaign has drawn widespread praise from both Muslim and interfaith communities in Kenya, emphasizing the country’s tradition of generosity and social responsibility.
