– In response to Kenya’s troubling surge in road fatalities—4,748 in 2024, a 10% increase from 4,324 in 2023 —Isuzu East Africa, the region’s largest automotive assembler, has launched a bold new Driver Wellness Initiative. This holistic campaign unites public and private drivers, commercial operators, PSV and school bus crews in a shared mission: curb accidents through superior driver health, vehicle safety, and training.

🔧 “Your Partners in Wellness and Safety”
Rita Kavashe, Chair and Managing Director of Isuzu EA, emphasized, “Our commitment to drivers goes far beyond manufacturing and selling vehicles—we are your partners in maintenance, service, training, and overall wellness.” The month-long program offers:
Medical Checkups: Eye screenings, ENT evaluations, blood sugar and blood pressure assessments—delivered free by FirstSight and Lions Hospital.

Tyre Clinics: In collaboration with Bridgestone Tyres and AutoXpress, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy.

Vehicle Safety Inspections: Comprehensive inspections of Isuzu trucks through the Isuzu dealer network.

Advanced Driver Training: Building safe-driving skills focused on risk awareness and accident prevention.

Telematics Access: Complimentary Isuzu Connect telematics monitoring.

🤝 A United Front
This marks the third edition of the wellness campaign. Isuzu EA has reaffirmed its role not just as manufacturer, but as a community safety steward—working closely with NTSA and county authorities to support the National Road Safety Action

Rita Kavashe added: “Health and knowledge are key to preventing accidents. At Isuzu, our commitment to drivers goes far beyond manufacturing and selling vehicles—we are your partners in maintenance, service, training, and overall wellness.”

🌐 Collaboration Beyond Vehicles
FirstSight & Lions Hospital will bring essential medical services—screenings, diagnostics, and follow-ups.

AutoXpress pharmacists on-site will dispense prescribed medications.

Bridgestone Tyres and AutoXpress will lead tyre safety clinics.

Isuzu dealership teams will carry out full vehicle inspections and safety coaching.

Telematics access via Isuzu Connect will help logistics fleets and operators monitor driver behavior and response times.

🎯 Targeting Kenya’s Riskiest Drivers
The initiative specifically aims at drivers in the highest-risk groups—PSV operators, school bus crews, heavy-duty truck drivers. This mirrors NTSA’s recent sensitization events and clinics held during the UN Global Road Safety Week

, plus county-sponsored school driver wellness programs.

🚦 A Life-Saving Investment
Kenya continues to grapple with one of East Africa’s highest road fatality rates—nearly 13 deaths per day
. Experts agree: improving driver wellness directly reduces human error—a leading cause of crashes nationwide
. By combining health checks, tyre safety, driver training, and telematics, Isuzu’s initiative addresses multiple prevention angles.

📣 What This Means for Drivers
Free health assessments—spot early warning signs like hypertension, diabetes, and vision issues.

This comprehensive model shows that good vehicles alone aren’t enough—driver well-being, behavior, and ongoing monitoring are equally vital. As Isuzu EA puts it, they’re more than a truck company—they’re drivers’ partners on the road to safety.
