The Nairobi Hospital Reaffirms Financial Strength, Governance Reforms, and Quality Care Amid Legal Dispute

The Nairobi Hospital has today addressed recent public speculation, underscoring its robust financial standing, commitment to governance reforms, and unwavering dedication to quality patient care.
Financial Resilience and Infrastructure Modernisation
CEO Dr. Felix Osano, confirmed in his substantive role in May 2025, has led the hospital through a transformative period marked by strategic infrastructure upgrades funded entirely from internal revenues without reliance on loans
Legal Dispute with Opticom Kenya Limited
The hospital is currently engaged in a contractual dispute with Opticom Kenya Limited, which involves the supply and installation of security scanners. Opticom had filed an insolvency petition and sought urgent judicial intervention. However, on August 12, 2025, the High Court declined to certify the case as urgent, stating it does not meet the threshold for urgency and allowing the dispute to proceed via the normal judicial schedule
In response to the petition, Dr. Osano affirmed that the case is a contractual matter to be resolved legally and that the gazette notice does not indicate insolvency. The hospital continues to maintain that it is financially solvent and committed to uninterrupted healthcare services
Governance Strength and Public Confidence
In early 2025, the hospital underwent leadership restructuring amid governance scrutiny. The newly appointed Board Chair, Dr. Barcley Onyambu, alongside Dr. Osano, emphasized that integrity concerns were isolated and did not compromise the institution’s mission to deliver quality care. They reaffirmed the hospital's resilience through a shared commitment to institutional excellence and accountability
Insurers’ Suspension and Constructive Dialogue
Following a recent tariff adjustment by the hospital, several insurance providers announced a temporary suspension of services, citing concerns over potential impacts on premiums. Dr. Osano confirmed that constructive negotiations with insurers were underway, with consultative forums held in mid‑August aimed at achieving a mutually agreeable resolution while safeguarding patient access to care
He reiterated that only official communications from himself or Board Chair Dr. Onyambu should be considered credible, and warned against misinformation. The hospital expects that, through ongoing dialogue and goodwill, a resolution will be reached in the best interest of patients, insurers, and the broader healthcare ecosystem
