In a significant diplomatic moment underscoring both unity and accountability, the Somali Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, delivered a press statement today at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Nairobi. The occasion marked the official welcome of Mogadishu City Club to the Embassy, a gesture symbolizing national pride, youth empowerment, and the deepening cultural ties between Somalia and Kenya.
Ambassador Jabril praised the team’s participation in the ongoing regional football tournament and highlighted their role as symbols of Somali resilience, determination, and talent. “Their presence here is a testament to the strength of Somali sportsmanship and to the dreams they carry on behalf of countless young fans across our nation,” he said.
However, the celebration was tempered with a note of serious reflection. The Ambassador directly addressed the regrettable incidents that marred the aftermath of a recent match involving Mogadishu City Club. Without divulging specifics, he unequivocally condemned the “actions of a few individuals whose behavior has overshadowed the remarkable performance of both teams.”
“These incidents do not reflect the values of respect, friendship, and shared sovereignty that guide the relationship between our two brotherly nations,” Ambassador Jabril emphasized.
The Ambassador used the platform to underscore the robust and evolving bilateral relations between Somalia and Kenya. He called the current period “one of the strongest points in our history,” noting enhanced cooperation in trade, education, security, investment, and cultural exchange.
“This flourishing partnership reflects a foundation of mutual trust and a shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Horn of Africa,” he said. “We celebrate the bonds of brotherhood that unite our peoples.”
Ambassador Jabril also extended gratitude to the Kenyan institutions involved in the organization and security of the tournament. He commended the Kenya Police Service, the Kenya Police FC administration, Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and Sports Kenya for their professionalism and support.
He confirmed that the Somali Embassy remains in active communication with Kenyan authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all players and supporters. “We remain committed to making sure that both teams and their fans feel safe, respected, and supported,” he said.
In closing, the Ambassador issued a heartfelt call for peace and mutual respect among all communities and fans. “Let us remember that football is more than a game – it is a bridge of friendship, a unifier of peoples, and a reflection of African unity and sportsmanship.”
The statement is being viewed as both a diplomatic affirmation of accountability and a public gesture of goodwill, strengthening people-to-people relations between Somalia and Kenya at a crucial time for regional unity.
