The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct its Repeat Phase III Grassroots Elections on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in a major exercise aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots leadership structure across key regions of the country.
According to the party, the elections will take place in 18 counties, including **Kiambu County, Murang’a County, Kirinyaga County, Nyeri County, Nyandarua County, Embu County, Meru County, Samburu County, Trans-Nzoia County, Uasin Gishu County, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Nandi County, Baringo County, Laikipia County, Kericho County, Bomet County, and Vihiga County.
Massive Candidate Registration
The repeat grassroots polls have attracted more than 500,000 candidates who have registered to contest for 20 different leadership positions at polling centre level. The positions are designed to ensure broad representation from various segments of society.
These include representatives for women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious leaders, professionals, and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and traders. Party officials say the diversity of candidates reflects UDA’s commitment to inclusive grassroots participation.
Expected Voter Turnout
The party projects that approximately eight million voters will take part in the exercise across 8,819 polling centres spread throughout the 18 counties.
Officials say the high expected turnout demonstrates growing political engagement at the grassroots level, as party members seek to influence leadership structures ahead of future political activities.
Technology-Driven Process
In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency, the party has deployed technology throughout the electoral process. About 9,000 electronic voting tablets have already been distributed to polling centres to facilitate digital voting and result transmission.
UDA says the system will allow end-to-end management of the election process, from voter verification to results tallying. Once voting concludes, results will be published on a public portal managed by the party, allowing members and observers to follow the outcomes in real time.
Strengthening Grassroots Structures
Party officials describe the elections as a critical step in strengthening UDA’s grassroots governance framework, ensuring that leadership structures at the lowest levels reflect the will of party members.
The repeat Phase III elections come after earlier phases of the grassroots polls were conducted in other counties as part of the party’s broader effort to reorganize and formalize its internal leadership structures nationwide.
Voting is expected to begin early Saturday morning across all designated polling centres.
