The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially sanctioned its candidate for the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election. In a ceremony held at Hustler Plaza, the party awarded the nomination certificate to Samuel Muchina Nyaga, following his victory in a highly competitive primary race.
Nyaga secured the party’s flag after garnering 3,221 votes, narrowly defeating his closest rival, George Wamogo Kanori, who received 3,077 votes. The primary, held last Friday, featured a crowded field of 10 aspirants seeking to represent the ruling party in the upcoming polls.

Key Highlights from the Certificate Handover:
•Campaign Launch: UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan announced that the party is ready to "hit the ground running." He noted that the campaign team would immediately begin organizing grassroots activities in Ol Kalou to ensure a decisive victory in the by-election slated for July 16, 2026.
•Confidence in the Electoral Process: During the ceremony, party leadership praised the transparency of the nominations. Officials highlighted that the Electronic Voting System allowed results to be verified and received almost immediately after polling centers closed, reinforcing the party’s commitment to credible internal democracy.
•A Challenge to the Opposition: Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who was present at the event, issued a bold challenge to the Jubilee Party and the Democratic Congress Party (DCP). Pointing to UDA’s recent track record—claiming a 98% win rate in recent by-elections—Kuria challenged the opposition to name their candidates and present their agenda to the voters.
•Strategic Regional Importance: Speakers at the event emphasized that the Ol Kalou seat is vital for delivering the government’s developmental agenda in the region. The party intends to use this election as a litmus test for its continued dominance in Central Kenya.
Election Timeline
With the nomination process concluded, the focus now shifts to the official Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) timelines. Samuel Muchina Nyaga will represent the UDA in the July 16 mini-polls, which were triggered by the recent vacancy in the constituency.
The party’s top brass is expected to hold a series of town hall meetings and rallies in Nyandarua County over the coming weeks to consolidate support for their candidate.
