Schools Celebrated for Driving Innovation and Character in Education at 2026 Great Places to School Awards
NAIROBI, KENYA
Schools across Kenya are being recognised for their efforts to nurture responsible, innovative and well-rounded learners at the 6th Edition of the Great Places to School (GPTS) Awards.
The awards, hosted by the Global Peace Foundation Kenya (GPF-K), will bring together school leaders, teachers, policymakers, parents, education partners and other stakeholders to celebrate institutions making a positive contribution to the transformation of education.
The theme highlights the growing need for an education system that goes beyond academic achievement to equip learners with strong values, practical skills and competencies needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
The GPTS Awards recognise schools that demonstrate excellence in areas including moral and innovative leadership, values and character development, peacebuilding, school safety, health and sanitation, global competence, technology and digital skills, climate action, equity and inclusion.
Schools will also be recognised for achievements in extracurricular activities, career development and workforce readiness, as well as scholarship and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
According to the Global Peace Foundation Kenya, the awards are designed to celebrate not only what learners achieve academically, but also who they become and the skills they develop to make a meaningful contribution to society.
The initiative places character development alongside competence, encouraging schools to create learning environments where students can develop integrity, creativity, collaboration and other skills needed in the 21st century.
The event will also feature a high-level panel discussion on the future of education. Education stakeholders will explore ways schools, policymakers and partners can work together to prepare learners for emerging opportunities and challenges.
Beyond recognising outstanding schools, the awards will provide an opportunity for education stakeholders to exchange ideas, build partnerships and showcase successful practices that can be adopted more widely.
Through the GPTS Awards, the Global Peace Foundation Kenya continues to highlight the role schools can play in building a generation of learners who are not only academically prepared, but also equipped with the character, values and competencies needed to contribute positively to Kenya’s future.
