Hon.Maweu,CS Kagwe Join African Food and Agriculture Leaders at Foodies Choice Awards

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) Director Damaris Maweu were among key figures who attended the Foodies Choice Awards in Nairobi, bringing together leaders and stakeholders from across Africa’s food and agriculture sectors.

The event, held at Sankara Hotel in Westlands, brought together participants from Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ghana and Tanzania for an evening celebrating the food and agriculture industry and the people contributing to its growth.

Kagwe’s participation highlighted the central role of agriculture in Kenya’s economy and its importance to food security, livelihoods and economic development.

As Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Kagwe oversees a sector that links millions of Kenyans to food production, agribusiness, trade and employment.

His presence at the awards also provided an opportunity for the agriculture sector to connect with players from the wider food industry and counterparts from other African countries.

Maweu, who heads the Pest Control Products Board, also attended the event, bringing into focus the regulatory role played in protecting agricultural production and ensuring the safe management of pest control products

The PCPB is responsible for regulating the importation, manufacture, distribution and use of pest control products in Kenya, making its work an important component of agricultural productivity and food safety.
Maweu joined other industry stakeholders at the event as discussions and interactions brought together different parts of the food and agriculture value chain.

The awards attracted stakeholders with interests spanning food production, agriculture, agribusiness and related industries, creating an avenue for participants to exchange ideas and build connections.

With representatives from five African countries, the gathering also demonstrated the increasingly regional nature of the food and agriculture sector, where production, markets, regulation and consumer interests extend beyond national borders.

Kenya’s participation was particularly significant given the country’s large agricultural sector and its role in supporting rural livelihoods and supplying food to both domestic and regional markets.

The event also offered an opportunity to recognise individuals and organisations working across the food industry while bringing different stakeholders into the same space.
The presence of senior government and regulatory officials such as Kagwe and Maweu underscored the link between public policy, agricultural regulation and the wider food industry.

The Foodies Choice Awards therefore served not only as a celebration of food and agriculture but also as a meeting point for stakeholders seeking to strengthen collaboration across the continent.

Participants from Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ghana and Tanzania used the gathering to interact and share perspectives on an industry that remains closely tied to livelihoods, business and economic activity across Africa.
